Privacy Policy

We built PDF to Word Converter with a non-negotiable principle: your documents never leave your device. This page explains exactly what we do — and don't — collect.

Last Updated: June 16, 2026 ~8 min read Applies to: pdftoword-converter.com

The Short Version

Here's what matters most. The full details are in the sections below.

🚫

No File Uploads

Your PDF files are never sent to any server. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly technology. We cannot see, access, or store your documents.

🕵️

No Personal Tracking

We don't use fingerprinting, cross-site tracking, or personal identifiers. We collect only anonymous, aggregated analytics (page views, browser type) to improve the tool.

🍪

No Intrusive Cookies

We use only essential session cookies required for the site to function. We do not use advertising cookies, social media trackers, or third-party marketing pixels.

💰

No Data Selling

We will never sell, rent, or trade your information to third parties. Your data is yours — period. We have no commercial interest in monetizing your personal information.

🌍

GDPR Compliant

Our service is designed to be compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and other major privacy regulations. Since we collect minimal data, your rights under these laws are easy to exercise.

👤

No Account Required

We never require you to create an account. We have no user database, no password storage, and no profile system. You are not a product here.

01

Who We Are

PDF to Word Converter (PDF to Word Converter homepage) is a free, browser-based document conversion tool. We provide a service that allows users to convert PDF files into editable Microsoft Word documents (DOCX or RTF) entirely within their web browser.

We are committed to operating transparently and protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in connection with your use of our website and conversion tool.

For any privacy-related inquiries, contact us at: contact@pdftoword-converter.com

02

How Our Conversion Tool Works

Understanding how our tool works is key to understanding our privacy guarantees. Our PDF to Word converter is built on a 100% client-side architecture. This means:

1

You select a PDF file

The file is loaded into your browser's memory using the browser's native File API. It is never transmitted over the internet.

2

Conversion runs in your browser

The conversion engine — powered by WebAssembly and JavaScript — processes the PDF locally on your device, the same way a desktop application would.

3

The Word file is generated on your device

The output DOCX or RTF file is created entirely in your browser's memory and downloaded directly to your device. At no point does our server touch your document.

4

Nothing is retained

When you close the tab, all data about your session — including any in-memory representation of your file — is erased. We have no record that you converted a document.

Verified: You can confirm this yourself by converting a PDF while your browser is in offline mode — the conversion will still complete, proving no server connection is needed.

03

Data We Do Not Collect

We want to be explicit. We do not collect, store, process, or transmit any of the following:

Your PDF files Files you upload are processed locally. They never reach our servers.
Your converted Word documents The output file is generated and saved to your device without server involvement.
Document content or metadata We cannot read, access, or index the text, images, or metadata inside your PDF.
Names, emails, or personal identifiers We have no registration system and no user profiles.
Precise location data We do not use GPS, IP-to-street-address, or any precise geolocation technology.
Payment information Our tool is free. We do not process payments and have no billing system.
Browser fingerprints or device IDs We do not use canvas fingerprinting, WebGL fingerprinting, or similar tracking methods.
Conversion history or frequency We do not log how many files you convert, when, or what types they are.
04

Data We Do Collect

We collect a minimal amount of anonymous, non-identifiable data to understand how the site is used and to improve our service. This data cannot be used to identify you as an individual.

4.1 Web Analytics

We use privacy-focused web analytics to collect aggregated statistics. This may include:

  • Page views and session duration — to understand which features are most used
  • Browser type and version — to ensure compatibility (e.g., Chrome 125, Firefox 126)
  • Operating system — to prioritize platform support
  • Approximate country or region — derived from IP address (not stored), used for language and locale defaults
  • Referral source — to understand how users discover our site (e.g., from a search engine)
  • Screen resolution — to optimize responsive design

IP addresses used for geographic approximation are anonymized immediately and are never logged or stored in any identifiable form.

4.2 Contact Form Submissions

If you voluntarily reach out through our contact page, we collect the information you provide, which may include:

  • Your name (optional)
  • Your email address
  • Your message content

This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to mailing lists without your explicit consent, and we do not share this data with third parties.

4.3 Error Reporting

When a technical error occurs in the conversion tool (e.g., an unsupported PDF format causes a failure), our system may log an anonymized error event. These logs contain:

  • Error type and message (no file content)
  • Browser and OS version
  • Timestamp

Error logs do not contain your IP address, any file content, or any personal information. They are retained for up to 30 days for debugging purposes.

05

Cookies & Local Storage

We use a very limited set of browser storage technologies. Here is a complete breakdown:

Name Type Purpose Duration Required?
lang_pref Local Storage Remembers your language preference between visits Persistent Optional
export_fmt Local Storage Saves your last selected export format (DOCX or RTF) Persistent Optional
_ga Cookie Google Analytics — anonymous usage statistics 2 years Optional
_ga_* Cookie Google Analytics — session tracking (anonymized) 2 years Optional

Clearing Cookies and Local Storage

You can clear all cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will reset your language and format preferences but will not affect the functionality of the converter.

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear Browsing Data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data

07

Advertising (Google AdSense)

To keep our service free, we display advertisements through Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other sites on the internet. Here is what this means for you:

How Google AdSense Works

  • Google may use cookies (including the DSID and FLC cookies) to show you personalized advertisements.
  • Google may use your activity on our site and other sites to tailor advertisements to your interests.
  • This is governed by Google's advertising policies.

Your Ad Personalization Options

You can opt out of personalized advertising in the following ways:

Important: Google AdSense ads are unrelated to your PDF conversion activity. We do not pass any document content or conversion data to Google's advertising systems.

08

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data. Because we collect minimal data, most of these are straightforward to exercise:

🔍 Right to Access

You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you. Since we only collect contact form submissions (if you've written to us), this is the only data we could provide.

✏️ Right to Rectification

If you believe any information we hold about you is incorrect, you may request that we correct it. Contact us and we'll address it promptly.

🗑️ Right to Erasure

You may request deletion of any personal data we hold (e.g., a contact form message). We'll delete it within 30 days of a verified request.

🚫 Right to Object

You may object to any processing of your personal data. Given our minimal data collection, this mainly applies to contact form submissions.

📦 Right to Data Portability

You may request a machine-readable copy of any data we hold. We'll provide it in a standard format (e.g., JSON or CSV) within 30 days.

⏸️ Right to Restriction

You may request that we restrict processing of your data while a dispute is being resolved. We will honor such requests promptly.

How to Exercise Your Rights

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@pdftoword-converter.com with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request". We will respond within 30 days (or within the timeframe required by applicable law).

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information, making the opt-out right moot — but all other CCPA rights apply.

EU/UK Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, our legal basis for collecting contact form data is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in improving our service (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.

09

Data Retention

Data Type Retention Period Reason
PDF files / Word documents Never retained Never transmitted to our servers
Analytics data (aggregated) Up to 26 months Google Analytics default retention
Error logs (anonymized) 30 days Debugging and service improvement
Contact form submissions 12 months To maintain support correspondence
Server access logs (Vercel) Up to 30 days Security and DDoS protection

After the relevant retention period, all data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

10

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since our tool requires no account creation and collects no personal data in its normal operation, children can safely use the conversion tool itself.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information to us (e.g., through our contact form), please contact us at contact@pdftoword-converter.com and we will delete the information immediately.

11

Security Measures

We take the security of our service seriously. The following measures are in place:

🔐

HTTPS / TLS Encryption

All connections to our website are encrypted using TLS 1.3. Our SSL certificate is issued and auto-renewed through Vercel.

🏠

Local-Only Processing

Because conversion happens in your browser, your files never traverse the internet, eliminating the risk of interception during transit.

🔄

Content Security Policy (CSP)

We implement strict Content Security Policy headers to prevent cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks and unauthorized resource loading.

🛡️

DDoS Protection

Our hosting infrastructure includes DDoS protection to ensure the service remains available and secure under attack conditions.

🔍

Minimal Attack Surface

Because we store virtually no personal data, a data breach at our end would expose minimal information. There is no user database to compromise.

📋

Regular Security Audits

We periodically review our infrastructure, dependencies, and code for security vulnerabilities and apply patches promptly.

If you discover a security vulnerability in our service, please report it responsibly to contact@pdftoword-converter.com. We will investigate all reports promptly.

12

International Users

PDF to Word Converter is accessible worldwide. Our website is hosted on Vercel's infrastructure, which operates data centers globally. By using our service, you acknowledge that minimal data (such as anonymized analytics) may be processed in countries other than your own.

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland: to the extent we transfer any personal data internationally, we do so in compliance with GDPR Chapter V, using appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) where applicable.

For users in Brazil: we comply with the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD).

For users in Canada: we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

13

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • Post a notice on our homepage for significant changes
  • If we begin collecting significantly more data, provide prominent notice before doing so

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

Our core commitment — no file uploads, no personal data collection — will never change. Any change to this fundamental principle would be announced prominently and would require affirmative consent.
